Rotarians donate 425 desks to primary school in Lilongwe
The Rotary Club of Lilongwe in partnership with the Rotary Club of Limbe has donated 425 desks to Kalolo Primary School in Traditional Authority (T/A) Kalolo in Lilongwe District.
The support targets learners from Standard One to Four, where many were learning while seated on the floor.
Speaking on Friday during the handover, Rotary Club of Lilongwe president George Naphambo said the donation follows assessments which revealed that inadequate classroom furniture was affecting learners’ concentration in class.

He said the intervention will ease pressure in classrooms and enhance comfort for pupils during lessons.
“The project seeks to address the challenges created by lack of desks in many schools in the country. We believe this support will motivate learners and help them focus better in class,” said Naphambo.
On his part, Moses Kalungu, who spoke on behalf of Kalolo Zone primary education adviser, commended the rotary clubs for the gesture.
He said the desks will greatly contribute towards improving education standards at the school.
Kalungu said the PEA’s office will work closely with parents and community leaders to take care of the desks.
On his part, Kalolo Primary School head teacher Gerald Chadza said the school has long struggled with inadequate learning materials.
He said the donation will reduce congestion in classrooms and restore dignity to learners.
Chadza highlighted other challenges facing the school, including lack of a staffroom and inadequate teachers’ houses.
